Chalk Painting // Purple {A Year of Color #6}

Chalk Painting // Purple {A Year of Color #6}

This Year of Color is all about purple. And I'll be honest, I had no idea how to interpret this royal color. But seeing as it's summer that means time spent out of doors for us and coupled with with the fact that I'm all about "easy" (summer pregnancies have me like whoa) mixing up some chalk paint it was (thanks Desiree for the idea!)

All you need is equal parts cornstarch and water and food coloring. We used 1/2 cups of each and the following ratio of red to blue food coloring:

Drops red/blue
1. 10/18
2. 31/24
3. 21/5
4. 19/8
5. 25/10
6. 7/7

Kinsey hypothesized that the more red the lighter the shade of purple. What can I say, she's a genius. Obviously we just focused on shades of purple but feel free to use any color combination you like when mixing this up. It takes less than 5 minutes and gives your littles plenty of open-ended playtime.

Brielana and Kinsey lasted for about 30 minutes (so the time it took me to take pictures and edit them) until disaster struck:

  6. YAY!!! I'm so glad this turned out well for you (except the very end - bahahaha!!)!
    The number of drops of food coloring literally had me laughing. When Marcus has free reign of the food coloring so. many. drops. are used. Meanwhile, I'm like, how about TWO or THREE? HA!!
    Also, adoring the purple outfits on those sweet ladies.
