Where I'm at Wednesday

I like a good Brain dump and Wednesdays seem like a good enough day to do so.  This will be my first Where I'm at Wednesday, an end-of-the-month check-in with myself about what I accomplished (if anything!) given each month this year.  I find being at home I give myself a little too much slack on certain things and with some reflection I can correct that.  So here go's:

I am getting down to the nitty- gritty of Party planning for Miss Kinsey's 4th Birthday.  Like making the shopping list for food stuffs and paper goods.  And then that brings me to the realization my Baby is turning 4 years old in exactly a week!  Bittersweet.  That's all there is to that.

I am on my 3rd book of the month and a wee bit ahead of schedule for my Yearly Goodreads Challenge of 24 books.  I've read Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld and The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh and currently reading The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Phillip Sendker.

I'm sadly still without my car; we had a scary breakdown last weekend when my SUV stalled as we were heading uphill but thankfully, right next to a police officer in his patrol car.  Officer Jenkin's controlled traffic around us, called AAA for us, and stayed with us until Brian arrived.  God's timing is perfect!  But alas, being home-bound is kinda pitiful.

I'm definitely slacking in the Preschool homeschooling front.  Not only do we not have a theme or focal point, but we don't even do our daily work consistently.  I have got to sit down and Pinterest the heck out and get back on track.  Wish me luck...

Also, OMG, how many people have January birthdays?!  We've celebrated 4 already with another one this Saturday.  Cake has been enjoyed a little too much.

That about sums up January, folks!

Family Favorites: Board Games

I grew up playing card and Board games and I couldn't wait until Kinsey was old enough to play them with me. She is at the perfect age now and we have a good line up of games we cycle through during the week. Affiliate links used. A small commission may be received if you purchase an item through my links. Thank you for supporting my blog! In no particular order:

Chutes and Ladders game
This game is great for number recognition, counting, one-to-one correspondence, and the game markers are adorable!

Sneaky Snacky Squirrel game

This game is great for color recognition, building fine motor skills, and counting.  I love the acorn game pieces, too.

Candy Land game
The original game concept but with a Princess twist.  Great for color recognition and counting.

Great for memory recall, spatial relationships, and concentration.

And what do all of these have in common?  They're just plain fun!

I Believe: Girl Mom

A love list to being a Girl Mom.  I Believe:

There is no such thing as No Big Deal.  Everything is A BIG DEAL; see a spider, it's A BIG DEAL.  Watching your favorite show (cartoon, in this case), it's A BIG DEAL.  Having a playdate with a friend, A BIG DEAL.  Emotional development at its finest.

In accepting there will be glitter.  Everywhere.

In pink everything.  And occasionally purple.

All little girls are Princesses.  And if you're lucky, you stay one.

Walt Disney got it right.

Raising daughters is my most passionate job.

A hug and a kiss makes everything better.

In fostering a deep sense of self at an early age.  Even if that looks like a strong-willed, stubborn "brat".  The world is only too quick to downplay a girl's assertive qualities when it doesn't conform to days past "meek and subservient views."

Accessorizing is most of the fun.

Playing dress up is an art form.

Singing out loud means being as loud as you can; singing the right words is not mandatory.  Doing the right gestures is extra credit.

A three year old girl is a lot like a 13 year old teenager. Go figure.

"The days are long, but the years are short." Gretchen Rubin

{I love you Kinsey and Brielana}

A Mad Tea Party: Birthday Party Inspiration

A Mad Tea Party, Alice in Wonderland

A Mad Tea Party by work-it-mommy

I can't believe in less than a month(!!!) my first born baby will be turning four years old!  We both love Disney's animated classic Alice in Wonderland and touched off by last years Halloween photo shoot, we are still going Wonderland-strong.  I feel a bit behind; seeing as I start prepping for parties like 6 months in advance, but we were toggling the notion of spending her birthday at Disneyland and of course life happens (like an LA wedding in May that will see us visiting the Happiest Place on Earth then.)

But never fear!  I am in full swing party- planning mode (much to everyone's delight, ha.)
