I got such a great response to my counting calories post that I decided to share some ways that I made our pantry healthier. I am in no way giving out health advice just sharing things that we eat on a daily basis that are considered good for you :) Affiliate links used. Braggs Liquid Aminos instead of Soy Sauce//
They're both made with soy but Braggs has less sodium (320 vs 980) and no added preservatives and tastes just as good, while being a healthier choice. Kinsey thinks this IS soy sauce.
La Croix Sparkling Water instead of Soda//
The bubbly refreshing taste of naturally flavored carbonated water minus the overload of sugar and HFCS. I'm not a big soda drinker so this hits the spot for me.
Vegenaise instead of Mayonnaise//
Now this is a completely personal swap- I don't like the overpowering smell of egg that accompanies jarred mayo (and am too lazy to make my own.) Taste wise Veganaise is on par with mayo and is plant-based (soy) making it a healthier choice for me.
Garlic Powder instead of garlic salt//
I love me my garlic powder!!! I put it in pretty much everything. My trifecta of spices is salt (but only a little) pepper and garlic powder. It gives the flavor of garlic without the sodium overdose.
Coconut Spray Oil instead of PAM//
Coconut oil is having a moment, isn't it? I'm not a crazy coconut person (I'm not big on the flavor but do enjoy the smell) we do use it every day to keep food from sticking to our pans while cooking. Coconut is high in good fats and oh so convenient due to these spray nozzles. Ditch the chemicals and go with coconut.
Nuts and Sunflower Seeds instead of croutons//
Now, I don't have anything against croutons but if you want to save yourself some calories add seeds and nuts to your salad. Of course, make sure you're reading your labels because some nuts though high in good nutrients (omega fatty acids= good fats) can also be calorie-dense; but I feel better knowing I'm getting my calories in a healthier way.
What are some of your favorite healthy pantry swaps?

This is a really interesting post, Whitney! I'm always on the hunt for healthier alternatives. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreta idea for a post! I might do my own soon! I love vegenaise! And I'm totally going to try to liquid aminos- does it taste the same as soy?
ReplyDeleteWell I've got the garlic powder down pat. The rest though...not so much.
ReplyDeleteI tried switching to La Croix from soda, but failed miserably, haha. I use garlic powder instead of garlic salt as well and I actually prefer it. Garlic salt is okay for pizza, but otherwise I'm not a big fan. And I had NO idea coconut spray oil existed! Awesome post!
ReplyDeleteLove this, great alternatives!! I've been wanting to give liquid aminos a try. I'm a garlic fan too but usually reach for the garlic salt - need to refill my garlic powder!!
ReplyDeleteI like all of these, before when I couldn't eat soy I used coconut aminos for a soy substitute, really yummy substitute.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Lacroix water! I was all about that stuff during my whole 30 last year. Which flavors do you like the best? I wish there was a multi pack so I could try them without buying a whole big thing. I bought the mango but hated it and now I have 7 left lol. My favorites are the cran-raspberry and the orange!
ReplyDeleteLa Croix and coconut oil spray as staples in my house! And I tried to like liquid amigos, but it always tasted so off to me. But I at least use low sodium soy sauce!
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I've heard of liquid aminos but had no idea it was similar to soy sauce. I'll definitely have to try that. We're not big soda drinkers either, unless it's mixed with a cocktail :)
ReplyDeleteI am on board for all of this expect for La Croix. I purchased some and it was horrible. I gagged and tossed the entire pack in the trash. I think I'll just stick to my water.
ReplyDeleteI think I can make all of these changes except for the garlic salt. I LOVE me some garlic salt, lol. It is the best on top of grilled pizza. We were out the other day and I was so mad.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! This is so interesting to me. Saving this!
