The Little Things: Kinsey's Fragilis

When the weather is cooperating, we spend a lot of time outdoors.  Kinsey has always been a nature lover and the fresh air just does her good.  The other day she was digging around in the dirt and discovered a chrysalis.

She became so enamored over that poor little dud of a never-butterfly that she promptly made it a home in her bug catcher and took to carrying it around the yard.  Every few minutes she would pick it up and cradle it in her hands while talking to it.

Kinsey: "Poor baby doesn't have a family.  I'll give it food.  I don't know what they eat I'm just happy I found one.  I like his shell (chrysalis) I just have to check on it.  How long do you think he lays? (will hatch.  Hehe I thought that was too precious.)

I tried to tell her gently that sometimes chrysalis' don't hatch into butterflies (which I'm 99.99% certain this one will not) and not to be disappointed if that was the case, to which she promptly replied, "I won't be disappointed, I'll just cry"(!!!)  Yeah, she's not attached or anything.

Later when Daddy came home she kept telling him about her "fragilis" that she found and had named "Rollie Pollie Pollie".  I die over "fragilis"= fragile + chrysalis.  Total #KinseyQuote.

I am so moved by her compassion and love.  I told her she was a good chrysalis mom and she thanked me.  Bless her heart and wish us "laying" success!

Mom Confessions

Confession Time!  These may not be my best mom moments, but they are what they are:
Walking Stella in a Rapunzel night gown
My daughters spend wayyy too much time in their pajamas.  But honestly, nightgowns are so fancy these days, it's almost a crime not to wear them all the time.  Pretty+comfy=best of both worlds.  And it's so much easier changing a baby's diaper when there's only a zipper between you and the load.

We will eat cereal for dinner.  Sometimes after a long day, it's all I have patience for.  Also, we just love cereal.

No matter how hard I try, Brielana's high chair never seems to get clean.  Might have something to do with this:

My 10 month old eats better than my 4 year old (see above) but she will eat carrots and frozen peas.  So you bet I give those to her almost daily.  Other wise it's mac n cheese or chicken nuggets all the live long day.

When I'm really desperate for a nap, I'll get Kinsey to "cuddle with me" in my bed.  Invariable she falls asleep with me and I get my cat nap and then get to be productive with both babes out.  I only pull this card like once or twice a month because I don't like pushing my luck.  I tell you, Kinsey can smell a "nap" coming a mile away ;)

I'm a sugar junkie but don't like to share so this leaves me secretly eating sweets throughout the day.  From the pocket of my hoodie.  I shudder to think what else I'm actually ingesting from that pocket...

And there you have it!  What are your "momfessionals"?!

Thoughts on Marrying Young

Preparing for the trip to L.A for my cousin's wedding, has me thinking about my own nuptials and what we went through almost 7 years ago.  It was a small (size and budget) wedding, but all our favorite people were in attendance and got to witness our vows before God 'til death do us part.'

We were 22 years old and though I wasn't the youngest bride ever, I was one of the first of my friends to get married and feel like marrying young has given me some valuable insight.

Brian and I will literally grow old together.  We have decades ahead of us that we will meet together.  On the eve of my 30th birthday this November; we have spanned our teens, gone through our twenties and now begin our thirties. Side-by-side.  I am honored to have grown up with this man by my side.

Our styles, tastes and preferences have changed and will continue to change but our devotion to one another is solid and unwavering.  There have been highs and there have been lows but keeping our covenant and knowing God blesses marriage keeps us as one.

As we mature and grow older, so does our love.  It is constantly evolving, changing, deepening.  I find comfort knowing I will look into Brian's eyes the rest of my life.  The road to get to Brian was challenging but for the struggle it is that more rewarding.

Watching Brian as a father has completely taken my breath away.  We both have less than ideal relationships with our own father's so seeing him love and dote on our daughters is beautiful.  The father-daughter relationships he has with them makes me jealous in the best possible way.  I look forward to the (wayyy) future and seeing grandbabies come into the mix.  I already know I want to be called Granny Smith ;)

I know not everyone meets their future husband at 15 in high school.  I know not everyone gets that second chance of reconnecting with a friend and realizing you were destined to be together.  I know not all love stories have happily ever afters.  What I do know is our story was written by God Himself and for that I am truly thankful.

The Little Things: Dragons (and The Smith's) Love Tacos

We love the book Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri; it's witty, the illustrations are great and it's about something my family enjoys eating: tacos!

The other night Brian read Kinsey the book and the next night he texts me that he's buying things to make tacos. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until later when he asked, "You know why I want tacos? Because of Dragons Love Tacos! I enjoyed reading it more last night than I ever have before."

So it's life imitating art as we enjoy our inspired-by Dragons Love Tacos- tacos.
