Fall Fun: Caramel Apples

Caramel apples

This may have been my most anticipated item on our Fall Fun list because I have never attempted to make caramel apples on my own before.  And let me tell you, it was easier and faster than I had thought it would be!  Also, Brian ended up really enjoying them and requested I make more :)

My quest to find the caramel candies was what took me the longest and was a bit discouraging.  I went to three stores before finding them at Walaart (and then a week later Michael's had them in stock. Which is also where I got the cutest stick-like sticks from too!)  Walmart actually had two choices: the wrapped candies (which is the route I went) or the caramel bits.

I did refrigerate the apples after washing and drying thoroughly because I read it helps the caramel stick better.  I followed the directions on the caramel package to add 2 Tablespoons of water to the pot and stirred continuously, it only took about 5 minutes and then I was onto dipping.

It all happened so fast I hardly had time to take pictures haha, so what I did take was pretty much "before and after" with no "during", I was not going to let that caramel burn or harden up before I was done with it!

I also used crushed Brownie Batter Oreos and nuts as a little something extra :)

These two, two peas in a pod!

  2. hahaha yay! I love caramel apples. I haven't had on since right when we moved back to FL. I used to get them from Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory and I haven't found one as tasty back in FL ever since =( I do have those caramels though! They were bogo the other week. I love the caramel ones then dipped in chocolate. I wonder if I could pull that off!

  3. Ok, I seriously had no idea making caramel apples is this simple! But, is it messy? I can typically stand a bit of a mess in the kitchen, but the idea of messy CARAMEL kind of has me terrified. Like, is it totally sticky everywhere?
In other news: those look AMAZING!! I haven't seen these Brownie Batter Oreos that you speak of, but now I'm on a quest!

  4. So fun! So you just eat it off the stick or do you actually cut it up? I've actually never had a carmel apple before...wait no, once at a dodger game and they cut up the apple for you when you buy it.

  8. I love caramel apples but I'm a bit strange in the fact that I use red apples. I don't like green ones (or anything tart!).

  9. They look good! I was just telling my husband last night that we need to make caramel and candy apples! I think we're going to try the slices, though!
