Word of the Year 2022

Word of the Year 2022 on Work it Mommy blog

After spending the majority of 2021 intrinsically intuned while growing Laurel, I want to turn my attention externally and engage more with others; be that through texts, phone calls, written letters or in-person meet ups, being connected (again) is what I'm craving.

Word of the Year 2021

Word of the Year 2021 on Work it Mommy blog
It took me extra long to think of my Word of the Year for 2021. There was just so much to process and digest from last year that sorting through all of it was more work than in previous years (and I know you get exactly what I mean by that.)

Word of the Year 2018

Happy New Year!

2017 went by so fast! I suppose being pregnant for 9 months and then caring for a newborn just eats up a year like that. 2017 had the highest high in the gift of Clark and the lowest low in the passing of my beloved Papa; it also taught me a valuable lesson that I want to apply in this new year, to embrace each season of where I am at and embrace it hard.

embrace
[em-breys]

verb (used with object),em·braced, em·brac·ing.

  1. to take or clasp in the arms; press to the bosom; hug.
  2. to take or receive gladly or eagerly; accept willingly: to embrace an idea.
  3. to avail oneself of: to embrace an opportunity.
  4. to adopt (a profession, a religion, etc.): to embrace Buddhism.
  5. to take in with the eye or the mind.
  6. to encircle; surround; enclose.
  7. to include or contain: An encyclopedia embraces a great number of subjects.

verb (used without object),em·braced, em·brac·ing.

  1. to join in an embrace.
noun

  1. an act or instance of embracing

What are you embracing this year?

Word of the Year 2017

I'm definitely anti-resolutions. But a word to live by for a year? That I can fully support. Coincidentally, all have started with the letter "p" so who am I to change things up? With that in mind, I introduce my Word of the Year for 2017!

Patience
[pey-shuh ns]

noun-

the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or
pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.

an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay: to have patience with a slow learner.
quiet, steady perseverance; even-tempered care; diligence: to work with patience.

                                                                                           as defined by dictionary.com
I actually think of myself as patient person but I also always feel like I'm rushing around trying to get things done and in the rush forgetting what is really important, family and friends and me time. So I'm listening Alice's words, "To be patient is very good advice. And I seldom ever follow it. That explains the trouble I'm always in." {lyrics from Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland} and making better choices.

Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly Proverbs 14:29 NIV

Word of the Year 2016

And just like that it's a whole new year.

I enjoy the freedom of having a fresh start once that ball drops at midnight but can not abide resolutions; I feel like all they do is set me up for failure! But a word is something I can do. A little meditation on the word I wanted to embrace for 2016 and I have arrived at:

Intentional

An adjective-

1.
done with intention or on purpose; intended:
an intentional insult.
2.
of or relating to intention or purpose.
Synonyms include designed, planned, deliberate.

I want to be intentional with my time. Family time being the priority; making that extra effort to reconnect at the end of the day with Brian. Getting down-on-the-floor playing with Kinsey and Brielana. Giving less time to trivial things (hello, social media). Making a little Me time and not feeling guilty about it (Moms, can I get an "Amen"?!)

I want to be intentional about the things I say; I have a bad habit of letting words fly when it isn't necessary and holding back when it is appropriate to share. I want my words to encourage and can afford a little extra time to think through things before saying them.

I want to be intentional with the things I teach my daughters. This ranges from educational to the mundane but I want to truly consider the quality of the life lessons I'm sharing with them at this young age.

I want to be intentional with my days and not feel like I'm coasting through life or waiting for something to happen to me; I make the choices that dictate my life. I am choosing to do so deliberately.

Word of the Year

Word of the year

After contemplation and mindful consideration and perhaps a pop of inspiration my Word for 2015 is present.  To be in the moment, with my daughters, my spouse, and with friends.  To enjoy each day as it is intended, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" Matthew 6:34.  And to remember my time home with my babies is a gift and should be valued as such.

{Happy New Year!}
