Educational Road Trip Supplies // Jess from Secrets of a Stay at Home Mom {TTBH Summer School #3}

I just can not believe this is our last Teaching Together Summer School session!!! My how time flies when you're having fun :) I'm so glad that Leah is joining us as our guest host today AND that Jess was kind enough to share a fun activity with you!

Hello and happy August! Okay, I'm not necessarily happy it's August to be totally honest, but I've been looking forward to this post for months now, so I'll take it.  I'm Jess and I blog at Secrets of a Stay at Home Mom where I share about life as a mom, DIY projects, and so much more. (Disclaimer: A while back I made my blog private, but if you are looking to follow along, please send me a message with your email and I'll add you to my readers list.)  I've been married to my hubby, Drew, for 8 years and I'm a momma to Cam (4) and Emmy (18 months).  I started following Whitney about a year ago and we are seriously kindred spirits.  We have so much in common and became fast friends.  She is a part of my mom tribe and I just love her.  If only the across country distance didn't keep us apart.  But enough about me, let's get on to the fun stuff.

I absolutely love the Teaching Together Blog Hop!  It's one of my favorites.  Since I'm a recovering teacher (ha ha) I always have activities to share that I did with the kiddos.  The kids and I have spent a lot of time in the car over the last month on vacation or visiting family, so I decided to share a few things I prepared for Cam while on the road.
I found this bucket in the Target Dollar Spot for $3.  You can't beat that price when they sell for close to $10 or more on teaching supply sits.  I actually have four of them to use for different things and am so happy I thought to grab more than one.

I'm a huge fan of reading, so you will find books spread all over our house.  Cam has loved books since he was tiny, so it's not uncommon to find him with a pile of books.  His favorite right now are any Superhero books, so I made sure to have a few in the car for him.  Also, my in-laws bought a subscription to Highlight's High Five as one of his Christmas gifts.  He loves to comics and puzzles inside.  The Target Dollar Spot struck again with the super fun Imagine Ink coloring books.  I think we have four different ones right now.  Since we'd just seen Finding Dory I bought this one for the trip.  He loved it.
I also included a cookie sheet, laminated alphabet mat, and magnetic letters.  Cam matched the letters up and also enjoyed playing with them.
Cam knows all of his shapes, but there's nothing wrong with a little reinforcement and when I found these adorable Shape Clip Cards on Pinterest I knew I had to make them.  They were so easy to make  too.  I added a sticker on the back of each card behind the correct shape, so Cam could self check.

My boy LOVES using dry-erase markers, so I had to include them in our car fun bucket.  I found the dry-erase board and ABC handwriting practice cards in the Target Dollar Spot.  Do you see a trend?  The Crayola Dry-Erase book was given to Cam by my MIL.  It is so cool.  I wanted to sit and use it.  It's filled with mazes and matching sets.   The markers are from Walmart.  I hot glued a pom pom to the top, so he had instant erasers.  He thinks that is the coolest thing.

And there you have it.  A fun learning center to use in the car.  I'm all about relaxing and doing summer things during these hot months, but don't see anything wrong with a few learning activities.  Especially when Cam doesn't realize he's actually learning.  Score one for Mom!

Thank you so much Whitney for letting me take over your blog today for TTBH!  It's always a pleasure collaborating with you.  And I'll actually be back next week on her Mommylogues series.  :) Have a great week friends!

Now it's your turn! Thanks for joining AmandaBethCourtneyCourtney, Leah and me for the TTBH Summer School link up!

  1. These are all great ideas! I'm actually looking into the Highlight's High Five right now. Cash loves mail & comics, so this may be a great Christmas gift or a back to school gift for him. Thanks! Your idea to glue the pom pom to the marker is simply genius. Who would have thought? That's great!
