Jess of Secrets of a Stay At Home Mom {The Mommylogues Series}

I am so thrilled Jess is guesting today! She has been kind enough to guest for me twice this month and I just love her something fierce!
Hello Work it Mommy readers! I'm Jess and I blog at Secrets of a Stay at Home Mom. You may remember me from last week's TTBH post. Whitney has called this my monthly takeover because somehow we've paired up twice this month. You never know it may happen again. ;) I'm so excited to be back again this week to share more with you as part of her Mommylogues Series. I've loved reading the posts she's had so far this year because each one has reminded me that I'm not alone in my thoughts and feelings.

(Disclaimer: A while back I made my blog private, but if you are looking to follow along, please send me a message with your email and I'll add you to my readers list.)

Being a mom is the best job in the world. I always wanted to be a mom and when we decided we were ready, okay I may have started pushing the issue just a tad, but when we were ready it was like I saw pregnant women and babies everywhere. Anyone else have this problem? Anyways, it just made me more excited to have the experience myself.

But let me tell you friends, mommin' is freaking hard. Seriously! It's not like I didn't know that going into it, but whew goodness. What a mom has to give on a daily basis is a lot. I'm not complaining, I'm just stating a fact.

There are so many things that you aren't told when you are pregnant or before. Yes, you are told that baby wakes up to eat every few hours. You take a class to find out how to handle child birth and how to breastfeed. You buy all of the best gadgets and things your baby needs (only to realize you don't need half of them). Yes, you are told (a million times) that your life is going to change. Yes, I know my body might not bounce back or look the way it did before. (Thanks for pointing that out. Ugh!) And yes, I know that I won't sleep again until they are 18. Again, thanks for that. It's like people are trying to talk you out of having children. Ha! I was so amazed at the amount of unsolicited advice I was given. So here are some things that I wish I'd known beforehand because again, mommin' ain't easy.
Child birth hurts!! Anyone who made it out to be a walk in the park must have had a lot of drugs in their IV. I'm not saying it wasn't a wonderful thing, but holy crap guys! Especially if you had a natural birth. Power to those mommas everywhere!

The amount of times a baby is really up each night. Whoa buddy!

Breastfeeding isn't always easy. You and that sweet baby have to work for it.

The fears you have about making the right choices for your child.

Boobs aren't the same after breastfeeding, i.e. they are empty, flat pieces of flesh after.

The fear and utter helplessness you feel when child is missing for a few seconds (heart drop).

The speed at which you can get from one place to another when you see your child about to get hurt.

The emotions that rise up when you see your child being treated unfairly. Mama bear what?

Snack time is any time they are bored or see you walk into the kitchen.

How different your relationship is with your hubby.

You seriously grow eyes in the back of your head.

Your time is no longer your time.

The amount your heart grows with each baby. I swear mine tripled when my son was born, but then it just continued to get bigger once my daughter came into the world.

The bond you create with your children is something that's truly indescribable.

Being a mom is freaking hard, but the best and most rewarding job out there. Who else can say they grew a person inside their body? It's one special thing to experience.
The day I became a mom my life truly began. My children bring me more laughter and joy than anything else in the world. The things they say and do, watching them accomplish something new, the hugs and kisses and the snuggles are all what make me want to get up in the morning. I wouldn't trade this job for the world and I'm so blessed to be a mom. But I also like to keep it real, which is why I shared my thoughts above. We all have bad days and feel like we didn't do the job we should have that day. It's life and every day is a new day, which means you can start over. My goal as a mom is to have a better day than the day before. So never get too down on yourself because I've learned over my four years as a mom that my children love me just for being me, which is all that matters. Have a great week friends and remember that mommin' ain't easy!

    1. For sure! Let me tell you the amount of judging I did to some of my student's parents before becoming a mom. I look back and just want to fist bump them. Ha ha! It's so tough, but God are they worth it. :)

  3. LOVE this post and the boob comment made me lolololol! I never thought my boobs could be smaller and then I nursed two babies and they are gone, just GONE! Two Jess posts in one week is just fine with me too :).

    1. I had to speak the truth. Ha ha! I had such nice boobs before breastfeeding. Drew just keeps reminding me that they bounced back a bit after Cam. Just waiting on that to happen. Ha ha! I'm glad you've enjoyed my posts. :)

  4. Very, very well said! I completely agree with you, Jess! Once upon a time, I wanted no part of kids. I look at Mila now (and think of #2 on the way) and it seems crazy I ever thought that. I couldn't imagine life not being a mom. It's the hardest, yet most wonderful, thing I've ever done!

  5. I love this! I love your motto, too. To make sure that each day is better than the previous. I truly love that. I think it is really starting to hit me that Cash will be in school 3 mornings a week in just a few weeks. I'm not sure if I'm ready to let my baby go!

    1. Thanks sweet friend! If each day is better than the one before it has to be a good day. I know how you feel. This will be Cam's 3rd year in preschool and the difference I've seen in him is amazing. He was such a meak and quiet child when he started at 2, but is now so outgoing. :)

  9. YES YES and more YES. Everything she said is spot on. I hated how people would give me unsolicited advice as well. And how come it is that people only tell you the negative? Like you won't ever sleep again and such? People should tell you that sure, it's hard, but it's all worth it and it's the best job ever!
